Pure Encounters: from artist to artist.
If there’s one photo I’ve taken that’s worth 1,000 words it’s this one right here and I’ll tell you why:
Met this street artist in Antigua after stopping him to take this photo and because I had already stopped him he convinced me to have him to draw a portrait of me and my Ex. As we sat in the crowded, humid, market sitting ever so still so that he could draw the masterpiece he told us his story. Born and raised on the island, spent some time in the states traveling as an artist in different cities, living out his dream. From the time he was a little boy and picked up a pencil he new art was his calling. I remember so vividly the sweat dripping off his brow onto the canvas, the rubbing of the eraser, and the gleam of light in his eyes. This man was in his element, he was full of Joy doing what he loved and excited to make others feel his light as well. After he finished I showed him the photo I took and he was blown away. He smiled from ear to ear and said: “when you get home I want you to print out this photo and you favorite photo of yourself and send them back to me on the island” he ripped off a piece of paper and gave me his address and I choked up. My eyes began to water. That same appreciation I shared for his craft he shared for mine and the love was genuine. Art connect us all, no matter where you are in the world art and creativity are a universal language. I’m glad to have had my art gift me such rich and PURE ENCOUNTERS. To my friend across the seas, your photo is coming.
